John Mackenzie donates to Francistown DHMT
18 Jun 2019
John Mackenzie Primary School recently donated sanitary pads worth over P15 000 to the Greater Francistown District Health Management Team (DHMT).
The pads would be passed to Lekgaba Primary School.
This followed a partnership that John Mackenzie and DHMT recently signed to run a sanitary pad drive.
John Mackenzie school head, Ms Sharon Joubert, said during the handover ceremony that they were concerned about the number of girls that missed school due to lack of sanitary pads.
Ms Joubert said this was not only a problem for the girl child, but for the boy child also because they too needed to know their responsibility as their sisters’ keepers.
The school head also explained that as a learning institution, they were hoping to donate every year, adding that in fundraising for the donation, they managed to spark conversation about menstruation.
She appreciated parents for helping to ensure that the school met its goals and applauded organisations that contributed to this gesture. For her part, counselor for both the primary and high school, Ms Tumisang Sedimo said they identified a need to talk to children about what happened around them, adding that they decided to talk on the dignity of the girl child and also on the responsibility that the boys had towards their sisters.
Ms Sedimo said by donating the pads, they were contributing to mindset and behaviour change of boys and girls. ENDS
