BAC launches online study mode

16 Jun 2019

Botswana Accountancy College’s (BAC) newly launched online learning mode has been described as a key feature that will add to efforts to build a knowledge-based society that Botswana aspires to become.

The accountancy college’s executive director, Ms Serty Leburu, who was speaking at the launch on June 14, said the new study mode was not only convenient, but also flexible and affordable, thus allowing for more people to study and acquire qualifications through the institution.

She said online study platforms made access to higher learning possible even to people who could not due to different circumstances.

She appealed to those who had been in the past hampered by inability to physically undertake programmes at the institution to take advantage of the online learning mode to further their studies.

Deputy executive director, academic affairs at BAC, Dr Byron Brown said globally online learning was the preferred study mode due to its convenience and flexibility.

He said with many people technologically savvy, it was only right for BAC to have adopted and incorporated online learning into its study programmes.

Dr Brown also said with the education landscape continuing to change, higher education institutions had to embrace convenient, flexible, affordable and innovative modes of study to increase access to higher learning.

Ms Charissa Cousins, chief operations officer at IBTC South Africa, which partnered with BAC to deliver the online study mode, also hailed online learning as an unrivaled alternative to the traditional classroom based learning.

She said self-studying was an answer to different impediments to learning such as geographical limitations.

She thanked BAC for having chosen IBTC as partners, saying the company was thrilled at the opportunity to play a role in expanding access to professional education in Africa. ENDs
