Nominated councillor in Ghanzi South constituency, Mr Thato Tshweneyagae, has welcomed High Court decision to decriminalise same sex relationships.

Mr Tshweneyagae, who is also Botswana Democratic Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Ghanzi South stated that the ruling delivered by Justice Michael Leburu recently was a welcome development.

“This is something that must be celebrated,” he said arguing that vision 2036 called for prosperity for all.

“We must embrace this people, they are part of us,” he added.

Mr Tshweneyagae, who was responding to the chairperson’s remarks during a recent council meeting, also said homesexuals were a creation of God.

However,  Charleshill Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Alec Motlhophele, said Botswana was Christian society and that the Bible did not support same sex relationships. Ends
