Kgosietsile Primary School continues to shine

16 Jun 2019

Kgosietsile Primary School recently held an award ceremony to celebrate 2018 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results where the school attained 100 per cent pass rate.

Situated in Mababe, which boarders Moremi Game Reserve, the school has topped regional and national PSLE chats many times regardless of it being in a remote area with no amenities such as electricity.

Speaking at the award ceremony on June 15 in Mababe, the school head Mr Goletwang Letsholathebe noted that the school performed well across all classes, noting that the results were impressive over the years with 100 per cent in 2018, a 92.7 per cent in 2017, 100 per cent in 2016, 100 per cent in 2015 as well as 100 per cent in 2014.

He noted that as a result the school kept receiving teachers from other schools in the North West region for bench marking purposes.

The school, located in a small village, he said, held in high regard parents-teacher relations as a main contributor to its excellent results, saying parents visited classes regularly to see how their children performed.

Kgosietsile Primary School,  which has been in existence for 21 years, currently has a total of 128 pupils and 10 teachers.

The school head observed that the school also valued early childhood development, especially with the introduction of a pre-school within it.

He said their main challenge was lack of electricity in the village, which affected some of the operations in the schools.

He observed that human-wildlife conflict was also a concern since pupils came late sometimes due to encountering elephants on their way to school.

Mr Letsholathebe also decried shortage of computers since the school had only two computers ,which were shared by teachers and pupils.

North West regional education principal education officer Ms Veronica Ridge presented a trophy and a certificate to Kgosietsile Primary School for its outstanding performance.

She said the school was recently recognised for being among the top 10 schools in PSLE results in the past five years at the ministerial awards in Gaborone on June 6.

First National Bank Botswana Maun branch manager, Ms Kelebogile Disang encouraged stakeholders to join hands with government to assist in education.

She also appealed to parents to commit to their children’s education to ensure excellent results.

Pupils on the other hand, she said, must be responsible for their lives and education by desisting from such vices as truancy and substance abuse.

Ms Disang also donated a laptop to the school. ENDS
