Two nurses and one patient at Broadhurst III Clinic were Friday (June 14) morning attacked by criminals who got away with five cellphones.
Botswana Police Service’ Senior Superintendent Near Bagali confirmed the incident in an interview, saying the police have instituted an investigation on the robbery.
Senior Superintendent Bagali said the seven alleged robbers, who were armed with sharp objects, robbed the clinic at 5am and got away with cellphones - two from the two nurses, one from a patient, whilst the other two belonged to someone who was waiting for a patient in a vehicle outside the clinic.
He said the suspected robbers overpowered the two security officers who were on duty to get inside the clinic.
Commenting on the incident, Botswana Nurses Union president, Mr Obonolo Rahube expressed concern about the safety of their members, saying several of these incidents had now become a norm.
“We are worried about these incidents. Another one happened at Extension 2 Clinic, as well as Mafitlhakgosi Clinic.
According to Mr Rahube, the two nurses were in a consultation room with a patient when they were attacked by the criminals.
“As we speak, these nurses are receiving counselling, as they are severely traumatised by the incident,” he said. ENDS
