Cycle4Life donates to Bokaa community

Cycle4Life club over the weekend donated 102 spectacles to the community of Bokaa as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Together with their partners, Dimension Data and Opticals Botswana, Cycle4Life donated the spectacles worth P20 000 from proceeds of their annual Dimension Data Route 73 mountain bike race, which passes through Bokaa to students and adults.

When handing over the spectacles, president of Cycle4Life, Geoffrey Phonchi said the project termed See73 empowered the learners and also gave the elderly an opportunity to go about their lives with better comfort, whilst getting little assistance from others.

Phonchi indicated that a child with a vision problem might be able to live normally at home, but start experiencing minor difficulties when they get to school; which would eventually disturb their success in class.

He also indicated that some children with vision problems might seem to have attention difficulties, since eyestrain and headaches could make it hard for them to stay on task.

Therefore, he encouraged parents to have regular eye screenings for their children to avoid vision problems.

He said early detection of any problems in vision could give children a better learning experience.

For her part, Dimension Data CEO, Onna Marumo said her company had specific programmes that work with young people, notably education and sport.

She further noted that the company had partnered with Ministry of Basic Education to provide support to six schools, with the intention to extend to other schools. ENDS
