No funding for independence celebrations

10 Jun 2019

Mahalapye Sub-district chairperson, Mr Tassman Cebani has said that even though preparations for independence celebrations were at an advanced stage, the national event does not have funding.

Mr Cebani, who was addressing the sub-council meeting in Mahalapye on June 10, however said consultation meetings were ongoing to prepare for the celebrations.

Mr Cebani said the sub-council was also affected by financial constraints.  He said independence celebrations were some of the activities affected by the shortage of funds.

Meanwhile, Central District Council chairperson, Mr Peter Williams implored councillors to establish a cordial working relationship with one another for the benefit of the community. He said a joint workforce would take the country forward. He further noted that a productive workforce would only achieve its mandate when there was respect for one another.

“You must also respect and support the decisions that have been taken,” he said.

He also told councillors that the council was running at a deficit and appealed to councillors to commit to serving the nation despite the financial difficulties.

“I have noted that there are some councillors who neglect their duties after losing at their respective parties’ primary elections. People end up suffering as they will not have a representative to attend to their issues of interest,” he said.

He advised the councillors to respect the trust bestowed upon them by the people when they elected them as their political representative. ENDS
