Police IX Wells dominate awards

Police IX Ladies team and Wells International men’s team are this year’s Botswana Fibre Network (BoFiNet) Softball League champions.

The two teams pocketed P100 000 each and trophies after emerging winners of the tightly contested league at the awards ceremony held on June 7

The ladies team successfully defended their title with a hard fought victory over Panthers to ensure they safeguarded their three years consecutive title.

Players from the two teams also dominated the awards as they scooped the best pitcher, best catcher, best slugger and the most valuable player awards.

Karabo Motsholathebe of Wells International scooped the Best Pitcher Award in the men category while Police IX’s Onneetse Seth won the same award in the women category.

Thabiso Radithobane of Wells International took the  Best Catcher Award and Boitumelo Majaha of Police IX won the award in the women category.

Wells International’s Eric Simwanza walked away with the Best Slugger Award in the men’s category while Charity Isaac of Police IX scooped it in the women category.

Thabiso Radithobane of Wells International made also clinched the Most Valuable Player Award and Nametsegang Mathame of Police IX took it in the women category.

Coaches of the year awards went to Tony Moyo of Panthers and Phibion for the women side.

BoFiNet board chairperon, Ratsela Mooketsi said their partnership with Botswana Softball Association (BSA) was bearing fruits as confirmed by the competitiveness of the game.

He said their support would continue and called for improvement of the sporting facilities as that would help the country in bidding for hosting international games.

For his part, BSA president, Thabo Thamane thanked BoFiNet for choosing softball to be its partner and said the move had improved the game to the highest level. He said they would work hard to maintain the momentum and also help grow the sport at the grassroots level.

“We are already seeing results of the Japanese assistance in providing advance trainings in schools,” Thamane said.

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Kabelo Ebineng announced that the senior men’s team left for Czech Republic yesterday and wished them well. ENDS
