Employment labour productivity minister in Geneva

09 Jun 2019

The Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, is in Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) and transmission of the report of the Global Commission on the Future of Work, scheduled for June 10 to 21.

A press release from the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development says Mr Mabeo left on June 8, accompanied by representatives of government and employers and workers organisations.

The ILC, the release notes, is the highest decision making body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) responsible for crafting, adoption, supervision and examination of international labour standards in the form of conventions and recommendations by member states. The conference also passes resolutions that provide guidelines for the ILO's general policy and future activities and is held annually in June, bringing together the tripartite delegations from the organisation's 187 member states.

This year, the release says ILO will be celebrating its 100th year of existence and the 108th session of the ILC will be the culmination of centenary celebrations.

The minister and his delegation are expected to be back on June 22, 2019. ENDS
