04 Jun 2019

Botswana national women volleyball team started the All Africa Games qualifiers on a high note beating eSwatini 3-0 in Maputo, Mozambique on June 3.

Botswana won all sets with 25-8, 25-16 and 25-22 to register the resounding victory.

The team’s coach, Kabo Ntshinogang, said despite winning their first game, the team lacked cohesion something that they would work on in their next match.

“The players need to understand each other so that they can effectively move on the pitch,” he said.

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president, Odisitse Keotsene, said they were happy that the team was a step closer to qualifying for the All Africa Games.

“Our aim is to qualify but we are little disappointed that other countries did not turn up for the tournament,” he said.

He praised the team for starting the tournament on a high note, despite the fact that they did not prepare well for the competition.

“Even though Botswana dominated the game, I must say we had a difficult year and that affected our preparation for the games.

But in all, we are happy with the results,” he said.

He said for the women team to qualify, they should beat Mozambique today.

Meanwhile, Botswana men’s team will also play against Mozambique  today in its quest to qualify for the games billed for Morocco from August 19-31.
