03 Jun 2019

Semolale police are investigating an incident involving a 38-year-old man of Semolale village in Bobirwa area who was killed by an elephant.

Semolale Police station commander Superintendent Nshaki Mabophiwa said in an interview that the deceased Balisi Sebodubodu who hails from Sebodubodu ward in Semolale met his untimely death on June 1 while him and other men were sent to look for some cattle for the burial of his older brother who had passed on.

Superintendent Mabophiwa said on realising that Sebodubodu was attacked by an elephant, his accomplices ran to a nearby cattle-post to ask for help, but it was too late to save the deceased’s life.

The two Sebodubodu brothers were buried on June 2.

Superintendent Mabophiwa said a search party including the police, members of the Botswana Defence Force and Wildlife Officers had been dispatched to search for the elephant as there were fears that the elephant could kill another human being.

He urged residents of Semolale and neighbouring villages to avoid walking long distances in the bush as there were roaming elephants.

He said some of the elephants had been spotted roaming in the village. ENDS
