30 May 2019
Kubung Primary School in Maun, on May 29, celebrated the 2018 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in which the school attained 97.2 per cent pass rate.
The Chinese ambassador, Dr Zhao Yanbo, said the Chinese Embassy would continue to support the school, which attained 97.2 per cent pass rate.
He commended Kubung primary for the excellent performance and for being in the top three schools in the North West region and 10 in the country.
He noted that the school, which was built and donated by the Chinese Embassy, echoed China’s commitment to education in Botswana and Africa.
Dr Zhao said the excellent results were a result of partnership from the regional education office, teachers, parents and pupils.
The Chinese Embassy, he said, built similar schools in Maun, Serowe, one near Gaborone while another was being built in Kazungula.
He said the embassy supported education through annual sponsorships for Batswana to study in China and the programme had been receiving increased applications annually.
Dr Zhabo donated 286 chairs and tables to the school.
North West regional education office assistant director, Mr Keoagile Ramoloi explained that the Ministry of Basic Education valued partnerships that helped improve the quality of education in the country.
Mr Ramoloi said the continued support from the embassy would help produce learners of the 21st century.
He noted that the school had grown since opening its doors in 2010 and now had seven classes and 244 pupils.
The school head, Ms Esther Maokisa said the school’s excellent performance was attributed to the Chinese Embassy’s support.
Team work from teachers, parents and pupils, she said, also played a role in improving academic performance.
She urged pupils to keep up the good work because education was their key to success. Ends
