Francistown district hospital construction on cards

30 May 2019

City of Francistown mayor, Ms Sylvia Muzila says as per the Urban Development Plan 4, implementation of a district hospital is planned to get started during the current financial year.

She said this when addressing a full council meeting recently in Francistown that such a development would require more personnel, especially doctors.

On the issue of voter registration for the 2019 general elections, Ms Muzila said there had been a mark growth of 3.2 per cent in the number of those who registered for the coming elections as compared to the previous elections.

She said that in 2014 a total of 34 096 people registered while in 2019, 35 206 people had registered, which was a slight increase of people who registered.

To maintain the percentage growth of registration, the mayor urged councillors to put in more effort on encouraging those that had registered to go and vote in October 2019.

On another issue, Ms Muzila informed the house that the adopted standing orders had been approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and would come into operation in the next council meeting.

She said such would allow the house to refresh and internalise the new regulatory document as well as the administration to collate and bind it appropriately.

Ms Muzila told the councillors about Tafic Sporting Club’s promotion to the Premier League.

She, on behalf of Francistown City Council thanked the players and the club management for their patience, commitment and perseverance.

“We believe that with the team now back at the Premier League, the city will be transformed into a vibrant one,” she said.

She added that she believed the city would be a destination of choice for most of the Premier League games.

Ms Muzila urged the public both in the city and surrounding areas to come in numbers as the Orange FA Cup Final would be hosted at the Francistown Sports Complex on June 15.

Further, she added that funds permitting, it would be wise that the council renovates the structures of the council stadium such as the sitting facilities, the main stand and the ablution blocks.

However, she noted that the intention to facelift the stadiums’ entrance would be done during the current financial year as the designs were complete and the tender documents were still at the vetting stage. ENDS
