Stanbic Bank Botswana has donated P20 000 as well as 700 sanitary pads, 100 scientific calculators and financial literacy materials to Mahupu Unified Secondary School in Takatokwane in the Kweneng district.
When handing over the gifts on May 27, diversity and inclusion champion at Stanbic Bank Botswana Ms Siamisang Morolong said the donation was part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility and the beginning of a relationship they would build with the school.
She said as the bank, they cared a lot about Batswana more so that Botswana was their home.
She noted that they were challenged to drive the economy and growth of the country by taking part in activities that drove the development of the country.
Ms Morolong further said they believed in education to grow the country, health, and youth employability hence the bank’s contribution in shaping the student as future leaders of tomorrow.
She explained that every person had a value they added in the community they lived in and through this, she challenged students to introspect and assess their value.
She, therefore, encouraged them to define their dreams with the intention to achieve them without being discouraged by anyone.
She said the donations came as a result of all female employees with the bank during the International Women Day meet when they decided to come up with an initiative that will impact the society.
She said each woman brought a pack of sanitary pads which added up to 700 in total which would become handy to female students at the school.
Ms Morolong said during their visits they realized that there were other needs hence the P20 000 donation to be used to purchase recreational games for students.
She said they will continue working with the school going forward and wished the students the best in their examinations.
When welcoming guests, the School Head Mr Mphaphi Kuswani said they were overjoyed to be receiving donations from Stanbic Bank.
He said they cherished the beginning of their relationship with the bank and expressed hope for the beginning of better days.
Mr Kuswani added that his school catered for more than 1 500 students (Forms 1-5) from as far as Sojwe and Tsetseng and from different social backgrounds.
He said given the school’s low performance, they have a target to improve their grades by 6 per cent in the final examinations. Ends
