Agric ministry faces transport shortage

15 Aug 2013

The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi, says his ministry has been hit by a general shortage of transport.

Responding to a question in Parliament, he stated that the shortage extended to the department of veterinary services and, as a way of optimising the limited resources, including transport, the ministry established agro-ecological clusters.

He also said the department of veterinary services had experienced high numbers of staff turnover in Kgalagadi District, Ghanzi District as well as Hukuntsi, Charleshill, Mabutsane and Letlhakeng sub-districts even though government had put in place some incentives such as the remote area service allowance.

The MP of Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae, had asked whether the ministry had put measures in place to address the problem of staff turnover at the department of veterinary services at the above places. He had also asked the minister to state measures put in place to address the shortage of vehicles for the department. Ends
