Govt livestock subsidy effective July 1

26 May 2019

Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security has announced a 35 per cent subsidy on livestock feed and supplements effective July 1.

A press release from the ministry explains that the initiative, which will run until June 30 next year, follows government’s declaration of 2018/19 a drought year.

The subsidy covers high-energy feed for mature animals and protein for the young as well as high producing animals, says the release, further explaining that the subsidy had been extended to cover dairy cattle, small scale poultry and piggery producers.

The release advises farmers to utilise the subsidy and that a valid Omang is a requirement for benefiting.

Meanwhile, the ministry has urged farmers to take advantage of the current fairly good livestock condition by selling some as a drought mitigating measure. ENDS
