Minister Arone cautions students against indiscipline

Good Hope Senior Secondary school students have been cautioned against behaviours that might compromise their future.
Minister of Basic Education, Mr Bagalatia Arone, cautioned the students during a motivational address after the commissioning of two boreholes at the school on May 23.
Mr Arone noted that acts of indiscipline not only contributed to poor academic results in schools, but had a negative impact on the students’ future.
The minister underscored the need for all stakeholders, students included, to support the government’s commitment to educating the nation through providing the necessary structures and equipment in schools.
He urged the students to take good care of school facilities and equipment to ensure positive outputs in academic performance.
He emphasised respect for teachers, which he said would go a long way in building positive images for schools.
Mr Arone also warned that delinquent students would be expelled to save the dignity of the education sector and committed students.
“There is a challenge of alcohol and drug use in schools, so I urge you to uproot those who are involved amongst yourselves, because you know each other. We shall only remain with committed students who are eager to study,” he stressed.
The minister further emphasised the importance of hard work, which he said would not only open doors for the students, but also make parents proud.
He said students who come from poor backgrounds had the power to change their stories through dedication and hard work.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) president, Leatile Malefho assured the minister that they were working hard to achieve better results this year, as they had already formed study groups, which were beginning to bear fruit.
He also said they were eager to re-build the image of the school.
He also said students’ behaviour was gradually improving, and he was optimistic of a total turnaround in the near future. ENDS
