'Come up with projects that will impact on lives'
22 May 2019
Member of Parliament for Francistown East constituency, Mr Buti Billy, has called on residents of Itekeng ward to consider coming up with projects that will have socio-economic impact on the second city.
He told Area W kgotla meeting on May 20 that gone were the days when people limited their development projections to ward level only.
“Your projections should reflect this in future because history has taught us that small development projects that you have undertaken in the past have been outstretched because you ultimately share such with other Batswana residing in greater Francistown and the periphery,” he said.
The Francistown East constituency lawmaker also informed residents about a number of reforms that government had undertaken with a view to ensure meaningful participation of Batswana in the economic affairs of their country.
For instance, he said, government was on the verge of promulgating a law that would force procuring entities, especially government departments and parastatals, to give preference to locally produced goods and services.
On other issues, Mr Billy announced that the issue of drug shortage at health facilities might be a thing of the past given that clinics had been through various District Management Health Teams given the green light to procure drugs unlike in the past when they relied on Central Medical Stores in Gaborone to do the same.
Residents welcomed Mr Billy’s suggestion to consider undertaking huge and impactful projects in future.
One of them, Mr Memory Thomba, called on those charged with implementation of various projects intended to improve people livelihoods to be steadfast and ensure projects were delivered timely.
Another resident, Mr Reuben Moeti was happy that a number of development projects, among them, the guest house were carried out by the young people of Itekeng.
He urged those charged with the duty to implement government programmes and projects to do so with verve and speed so that intended beneficiaries could derive maximum benefits out of such undertakings. ENDS
