Minister attends the World Health Assembly

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele left for Geneva, Switzerland on May 16 to attend the World Health Assembly (WHA) scheduled for May 18-28.
A press release from the ministry states that the annual gathering attended by all World Health Organisation (WHO) members states is a decision making body of WHO which determines the policies of the organisation.
It further states that among the agenda, discussions will be primary health care towards Universal Health Coverage, prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases, access to medicine and vaccine, health environment and climate change and global strategy for women’s, children and adolescents health.
According to the release prior to the WHA, the minister attended the preparatory meeting for WHO African Region Ministers of Health on May 18 of which the resolutions would be presented to WHA.
Furthermore, the release says that the minister attended the Commonwealth Health Minister Meeting on the eve of WHA.
It says the meeting reviews activities from the previous year and provides a platform for countries to present health issues to their commonwealth partners and peers.
The minister is accompanied by the permanent secretary, Ms Ruth Maphorisa and other senior ministry officials. ENDS
