17 May 2019
Alliance for Progressives (AP) women’s league president, Ms Joyce Mothudi has passed on.
In an interview, AP secretary general, Dr Phenyo Butale said Ms Mothudi fought gallantly against her illness until she succumbed at Bokamoso Private Hospital yesterday.
“Mk Mothudi became the founding president of our women's league following the formation of the AP and was instrumental in building the party structures across the country,” he said.
Ms Mothudi will be remembered for her work ethic demonstrated over a long and illustrious political career.
Dr Butale said her contributions in politics would be remembered by many since she was passionate about women empowerment and always sought opportunities and resources to capacitate women as well as promote their contribution in politics.
“Under her tutelage, AP at its first policy assembly committed to a 50 per cent quota for women and other marginalised groups in all party structures. The party further committed to entrench the same commitment in the country's constitution once in power,” he said.
Dr Butale stated that Mma Mothudi’s unwavering commitment to the 'new Botswana' and dedication to this vision would motivate AP to march on. ends
