Tebo Kgetse ,17 is one of those who have answered the government’s call to Batswana to assist the less privileged members of society
The teenager is the Founder of PlayURole; an organisation that aims at strengthening father-child relationships.
Tebo said he was inspired by his own upbringing as he did not have a relationship with his father until he was older as well as Facebook and YouTube sensation Jay Shetty, who posts videos with inspirational messages.
The Form 5 student at Molefi Senior Secondary School said he started the PlayURole, in August 2018, with the objective of bridging the gap between absent fathers and their children and assisting them with identity issues.
He said he juggles his studies with the organisation very well, revealing that he has taken a break as he was preparing for his final examinations.
Tebo said he would love to embark on a country-wide journey empowering those who grew up without fathers and helping them to forgive and forget.
“It is my dream to spread the mandate of the organisation to other parts of the country to help curb the rebellious behaviour of some, who still blame their absent fathers,” he said.
Mini Jay, as he is affectionately known, mentioned that his father continues to lend a helping hand to show his support, adding that he is grateful that his father does not feel labelled but is very supportive of his son’s dream of helping others.
“I will be hosting a father and child fun day at Masimo getaway on September 29 to educate both in a fun environment,” he said.
Tebo said he hosted a pageant in March this year to raise funds for his tour and was hopeful that he would find other ways to raise more funds.
He thanked his mother Ms Tshepo Kgetse, his teachers Ms Tebo Puso and Mr Patrick Modise and other people who played a role in his journey.
He noted that a lot of people played a major role in the success of the organisation and hoped there would be more participants in his future events. ENDS
