Excellence and distinction awards promote a culture of quality delivery.

Speaking at the Department of Meteorological Services’ (DMS) excellence and distinction awards in Gaborone on May 15, director of Policy Advocacy at Business Botswana, Mr Dichaba Molobe ssaid when employees’ good work is recognised, they are motivated to work even harder.

He said recognition also raised  self-esteem and led to a rise in productivity, which was important for the survival and success of the nation.

“It really does not matter where one lives, one could be a subsistence farmer in one of the villages of this country or a manager in a very famous company, high levels of productivity are essential,” he said.

Mr Molobe complimented the department for awarding high achievers and encouraged them to continue to appreciate and reward talent and outstanding performance.

In his welcoming remarks, the acting director of DMS, Mr Balisi Gopolang said the department’s aim was to always reward those who had devoted their energies into ensuring that the department provided Batswana with the necessary service.

He said their service to the nation was vital as it gave them an idea of what to do and which types of crops to plant for a given ploughing season.

Awardees were given certificates and cash ranging from P500 to P1 200. ENDS
