P110.5 million for Letlhakeng Sub-district

 Letlhakeng Sub-district Council chairperson Mr Thomas Batlhophi has advised on the need to prepare pre-tender activities ahead of time for planned activities to be done according to schedule and budget.

 

Speaking during the official opening of the sub-district first council session for the year 2019/2020, he said planning would help the council to achieve its mandate.

 

He noted that the council had an approved budget of P110.5 million for the financial year 2019/2020, which comprised of revenue support grant of P25.2 million while they also managed to collect P55 307, mostly from staff rentals.

 

“Out of the approved budget, seven per cent of the budget, which equals to P7.8 million, had already been spent,” he said.

 

He said the expenditure for this financial year started at a snail’s pace more so that the council received funding by the end of April, resulting in most procurement to be on the pipeline and at the tendering stage.

 

The chairperson further said procurement for other departments was ongoing with anticipation for an increment of expenditure as time goes on.

 

On the implementation of the Poverty Eradication programme, he said the department continued to deal with the backlog of beneficiaries.

 

He said 37 projects comprising of 21 fashion and design projects, 13 welding projects and two  food catering projects had been packaged during the reporting period.

 

Councillor Batlhophi further said there was a skill fair and career clinic through the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) from March 25 to 29 in Gaborone that helped those with interest to apply for packages to acquire relevant information that would assist them to decide which field they would like to follow.

 

He said the sub-district sent a total of 20 beneficiaries 15 of which were from non RADs villages and five came from settlements. ENDS
