Church leadership nation pillars

12 May 2019

The general manager of Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines, Mr Bakani Motlhabani says many lives are save, impacted and transformed as leaders of nations are built on the church foundation.

Mr Motlhabani, who was the chief walker at a 10-kilometre sponsored walk to raise funds for the construction of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church in Botswana at Block 4 in Francistown on May 11, emphasised the need for the church and community to work together to address spiritual, social and economic ills that had befallen the society.

He explained that the sponsored walk came across as an example of bringing together different stakeholders with a view of working towards a common goal.

Mr Motlhabani explained that the envisaged 700-seater church would be a place of refuge, worship and where the true gospel would be taught.

He stated that it was upon individuals, civic society, the private sector and the business community to support the church, either through giving their time, lending a helping hand or giving money or material.

“Let us join the AFM in its quest to transform the lives of our community.

The importance of the church, particularly in community building can never be over emphasised,” he added.

The general manager, whose family pledged P2 000, encouraged the leadership of the City of Francistown to continue actively participating in supporting the efforts of the church in community development.

“This church building is not only for the AFM, but for the city of Francistown as a whole,” he added.

To the leadership of Apostolic Faith Mission, Mr Motlhabani asked them not to grow weary of doing good, but display team work and work hard to put the project together so that the unwavering support of the congregation see them reaping a bountiful harvest.

Giving a vote of thanks, MP Wynter Mmolotsi said the AFM  Church in Botswana had neither disappointed its congregants nor the leadership of this country.

He therefore called upon other churches to emulate AFM church by only preaching the word of God and nothing else.

Mr Mmolotsi further asked the congregants to have a spiritual relationship with God, adding that by so doing, they would not fall if their church leaders backslide.

Mr Mmolotsi, who pledged 50 bags of cement, appealed to the business community to make donations towards the completion of the church building, which is still at foundation level.

In his welcome remarks, AFM senior pastor from White City branch, Mr Ontefetse Leselamose said pledges were continuing to come through, noting that currently the pledges stood at P50 000, adding that the construction of the church was meant for the generations to come because as a congregation, they had been ‘saved to serve’.

The construction of the church, which started in 2014 and estimated to cost P5 million, will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase will cover construction of blocks for the Sunday school and ablutions while the second phase includes the administration block and the church hall.

The desire is to complete the whole project, whose expenditure currently stands at over P718 000, by the end of this year.

The AFM Church in Francistown currently has three operational branches in Monarch, Gerald and White City.

The church is also currently mothering some circuits in Matsiloje, Matshelagabedi, and Mathangwane, among others. ENDS
