Upcoming boxers impress during tourney
12 May 2019
The DTCB boxing club hosted a breathtaking interclub boxing tournament at the Gaborone West multi-purpose hall on May 11.
The tournament was the seventh event in the Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) 2019 calendar and posited a positive development for the association, which is preparing for a hectic schedule.
The event saw young and upcoming boxers going head to head in over 30 bouts.
The young boxers were indeed a marvel to watch. They performed well against their experienced and much fancied opponents.
In the 75kg division, Francistown boxer, Boifang Kenaope, was too good for BMC’s Nametsegang Palai.
From the first whistle, Kenaope threw in a non-stop barrage of punches to pin down his hapless opponent who was saved by the referee ending the contest prematurely.
Treasure Moremi of the host stable beat BMC’s Raymond Madumetsa 3-0.
Moremi kept up his good form, using his hand speed and stamina to claim his victory.
In the 60kg division, the talented youngster, Nlisi Kgakgamatso of SSKB, displayed determination in his battle with the lanky Mmoloki Thipe of Moshupa.
At the end of their slow but tactical bout all the three judges waved to Kgakgamatso’s favour.
Still in the 60kg, Tebo Oduetse of Orapa succumbed to Kabelo Molwantwa of BMC.
DTCB’s Olefile Chapo shocked the experienced Ronald Molwantwa of SSKB.
Kagoetsile Raokgwathile beat Mosimanegape Pele of Mogoditshane 3-0.
In the 64kg, Lesego Lere of Molepolole beat DTCB’s Atang Keolopile 3-0.
Still in the same division, Christopher Kgangyame won his match against Kethamile Letlhagoge of New Xade.
In the 69kg, Kagiso Ntoti beat Mooketsi Lewis of Ghanzi.
Lewis teammate Tuelo Matlho also failed to make up for the loss as he fell to Karabo Mogorosi of BMC.
Most of the national team boxers watched from the stands since they had been given a break following their participation in the just ended Zone IV championship. Ends
