Shamukuni to attend disaster meet in Geneva

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Machana Shamukuni will attend the sixth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland scheduled for May 13-17.
According to a press release from the ministry, the conference is held every two years to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk.
The conference is a UN forum where legislators, practitioners, developmental organisations, academia and civil society organisations converge to discuss disaster risk reduction issues at a global level, says the release
The theme for this year’s conference is “Resilience Divided; Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies”.
The conference will present an opportunity to interact, strategise, share good practices, identify gaps and make recommendations to further accelerate the implementation of the global disaster risk reduction and resilience agenda.
Mr Shamukuni, who will be accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials among them the director of the National Disaster Management Office, is expected back on May 18. ENDS
