New Japanese emperor receives goodwill message

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has signed a congratulatory message to the newly enthroned Japanese emperor of the Chrysanthemum throne, Majesty Naruhito.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Masisi expressed Botswana’s well wishes to His Majesty Naruhito.

Also, Dr Masisi wished the emperor prosperity and happiness in steering Japan in the face of the new global challenge.

The congratulatory message states that Botswana and Japan enjoy long standing mutually beneficial relationship dating back to the Showa era.

Thus, the signing ceremony signified the two country’s continuity on partnership strengthening through cooperation in various fields for prosperity of their citizenry.

The message further states that Botswana is convinced that Japan will under Majesty Naruhito continue her benevolence to Africa under the TICAD process especially in the areas of health, investment, infrastructure and human resources development, governance, peace and peace of law.

For his part Japanese ambassador to Botswana, Mr Kozo Takeda indicated that the Japanese government came up with a law to allow the throne to pass to 59 year old Naruhito after the abdication of his father Emperor Akihito. ENDS
