Botswana Railways donate sanitary pads to Mowana

Mowana Junior Secondary School management has hailed Botswana Railways for donating sanitary pads.

The deputy school head, Ms Keatsala Kenosi, said due to financial hardships, some female students could not afford hence the school’s appeal to BR for assistance.

Ms Kenosi said most girls started their periods while at junior secondary and this at times compelled teachers to provide them with pads adding that school did not have a budget for such hence looking to companies for assistance.

Presenting the donation, BR legal counsel and board secretary, Ms Kusigani Mbambo explained that not having access to sanitary pads could lead to absenteeism.

She said it also was a challenge to their hygiene.

Ms Mbambo said it was their corporate social responsibility to support projects related to education, sports, conservation and the environment.

UNICEF statistician, Ms Mbabo, indicated that lack of sanitary pads resulted in one out of every four girls missing school every month.

She said that sanitary pads played an important role in a girl’s child and noting that as future career women they should not miss school as a result of lack of sanitary pads. ENDS
