Khama to engage health minister about complaints

07 May 2019

Member of Parliament for Serowe West, Mr Tshekedi Khama has promised his constituents that he will engage the Minister of Health and Wellness, pertaining to complaints about Mahalapye District Hospital (MDH).

When responding to his electorate’s accusations and complaints against the hospital, Mr Khama said he would engage with Minister Alfred Madigele to check if there were any changes to the situation at the hospital, as there had been complaints from other quarters as well. The Serowe West constituents had complained about patients being inconvenienced about bookings at MDH, which is considered an orthopedic centre.

Furthermore, the constituents alleged that the situation at the hospital was appalling and that the hospital staff never considered where the patients came from when making bookings.

The electorate claimed that some patients ended up sleeping on the floor since they could not afford to go back and forth without being attended to. Sometimes patients, who were informed they would be admitted before undergoing surgery, were sent back without proper consultation and explanation, the electorate alleged.  The electorate also claimed that the hospital wards were overcrowded with patients and caregivers, resulting in doctors being overworked.

On other issues, Mr Khama said that he had convinced a 15-man team of medical professionals who assist with hearing, sight and teeth problems to visit Serowe to help patients. He said that he would hold talks with Minister Madigele regarding the arrangement and also seek his support on the initiative.

He also said he he would also meet with the Serowe District Management Team to map a way to make the initiative a reality.

He told his electorate that they would be informed in due course on when the free services would be rendered. ENDs
