Youth Organisation Celebrates Mothers
07 May 2019
Mothers need to be celebrated for the immense role they play in their families and society in general, says Monei Events Projects founder Ms Nayang Nkwakweng.
It is against this backdrop that Ms Nkwakweng, through her company, started a Mother-Daughter high tea event in 2006 which is celebrated annually on Mother’s Day.
Speaking in an interview, she said the main objective of the event was to celebrate mothers in Kanye and surrounding areas, by spending the day with them. Additionally, she said, it intended to give daughters a platform to give their mothers undivided attention which they do not get often. The event also created different memories of mothers and their daughters, away from their usual social events.
She noted that they decided to make the high tea for mothers and daughters as a way of strengthening the bond between the two and acknowledging daughters as future mothers.
“Daughters are the mothers of tomorrow. Also, in as much as all bonds are important, the mother-daughter relationship is the most important of them all,” she said.
This year’s event, which is scheduled for May 12 at Seepapitso hall in Kanye, is expected to attract over 200 attendants considering the growing attendance since inception four years ago.
Held under the theme, Blossom Where You Are Planted, the celebration will be graced by different professionals who are expected to empower attendants on various issues affecting women such as societal, legal, personal and financial health as well as emotional well-being, among others.
“This year’s theme affirms to every mother and daughter that whatever they put their energy on, it does not go unnoticed.
Mothers often go an extra mile to do what’s best for their families and in the process they forget their own well-being.
It is therefore through Mother’s Day that we strive to sensitise mothers and daughters on their well-being either emotionally, socially or financially, she said.
However, Ms Nkwakweng said lack of sponsorship for the event has made them rely only on ticket sales, which she said was not enough for such a big event.
She appealed to businesses and individuals to contribute towards this noble course for it to be effective. ENDs
