Can Popa seal it tonight

06 May 2019

Free-scoring Township Rollers have a chance to seal their fourth consecutive BTC Premiership title tonight.

The on-form log leaders face struggling Miscellaneous at Lobatse Sports Complex at 7pm in a re-arranged match, which was aborted several weeks ago.

At the time, Miscellaneous rebelled against the sudden changing of fixtures by not showing up in Gaborone for the match.

‘Mapalastina’ have collected 64 points from 28 matches and are a single point ahead of their remaining challenger for the title, Jwaneng Galaxy.

They therefore need just three points to wrap up the contest since Galaxy are remaining with one match only.

Rollers are favourite for the maximum points going into tonight’s encounter.

Under the guidance of a committed proponent of free-flowing attacking football in head coach, Rodolfo Zapata, they have of late developed a ruthless streak and overwhelmed opponents by big margins.

In their past three matches, they have scored a total of 11 goals after blasting both Prisons XI and Mochudi Centre Chiefs 4-0 and BDF XI 3-0.

The Miscellaneous defence, which is built around Lucas Mothata, Chico Molefe and Bokani Leeto, would therefore need to be alert to stop the rampaging Rollers attackers such as Joel Mogorosi, Tumisang Orebonye and Segolame Boy.

Compared to their opponents, Miscellaneous are going through a lean spell at the moment, having not tasted victory in their past six matches.

That sequence includes two heavy defeats against Galaxy (4-0) and Orapa United (6-0).

However, the prospect of finishing in the top eight bracket and qualifying for next season’s Mascom Top 8 competition will motivate the 11th placed Serowe-based team to fight hard for the maximum points. ‘Tse Nala’ can still realistically snatch the remaining top eight slot because they trail eighth placed Sharps Shooting Stars by just three points.

They are remaining with two matches while Sharps have one match remaining. ENDS
