05 May 2019
Government is in the process of introducing a four subject Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) programme, Palapye legislator has stated.
Addressing a meeting in Palapye recently, Mr Moiseraele Goya, said government was making arrangements with the relevant ministry for children to be tested in English, Maths, Science and Setswana in PSLE.
He explained that currently, children were tested in seven subjects in PSLE, hence need for a lot of time and effort in studying.
The work load, he said, was overwhelming for children and could be one of the reasons they were not performing well.
Mr Goya, also Investment, Trade and Industry assistant minister said the four subject PSLE was expected to commence next year.
On other issues, the legislator encouraged Batswana to venture into farming.
He said the country was experiencing milk shortage and imported the commodity from South Africa.
Mr Goya said government was able to contain and control and the Foot and Mouth Disease and encouraged Batswana to rear dairy cows and goats.
Government, he said, was working at introducing a meat industry regulator as well as setting up a beef cluster development committee which would be working with the National Strategic Office and the Department of Animal Production to establish a beef export business venture to New Zealand.
He also stated that the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) was due for privatisation.
The Francistown abattoir, he said, was shut down while Maun was still operating. ENDS
