Teams to battle it out for promotion

Football fans will on May 11-12 descend on Mochudi as five second tier football teams from the South will be vying for a promotional slot to the Debswana First Division South league.
Speaking in an interview, head of publicity for Botswana Football Association (BFA) Southern Block Play-offs, Sugar Molefhe said the teams that would be competing were Bokaa Young Pirates (Kgatleng region), Kanye United (Southern region), Taung Young Strikers (South-East region), Holy Ghost (Gaborone region) and Masitaoka (Kweneng region).
He said the teams would compete in a round-robin, with the winner to be decided on points accumulated.
“On May 11, there will be two games being played. Bokaa Young Pirates will play Kanye United at Rovers grounds and Taung Young Strikers will lock horns with Masitaoka at Atlanta grounds,” he said.
He further noted that Bokaa Young Pirates will also be in action as they take on Holy Ghost at Rovers grounds later in the day.
Molefhe further said Holy Ghost would then play Taung Young Strikers at Atlanta grounds and Masitaoka would do battle with Kanye United at Rovers grounds at 3pm.
“On Sunday morning, Taung Young Strikers will play Kanye United at Rovers grounds, while Masitaoka will play against Holy Ghost at Atlanta grounds at the same time. At 11am, Bokaa Young Pirates will take on Taung Young Strikers at Rovers grounds,” he said.
He further said the last two games of the weekend would be between Kanye United and Holy Ghost at Atlanta grounds and Masitaoka against Bokaa Young Pirates at Rovers grounds at 3pm.
On how much football fans would be expected to part with to see their teams in action, Molefhe said a ticket would cost P30 per day.
He said the ticket allows the holder to access all matches at different grounds on the day.
Speaking on some of the sponsors that are playing a role in ensuring that the play-offs are a success, Molefhe thanked Edwin Mothulatshipi of Town Seed for the P50 000 contribution.
“The package entails branding, five kits to be used by the five competing teams, P5 000 for development programme in the Kgatleng region and decorations used for the launch among other things,” he said. He further thanked Kgatleng District Council for helping with preparing the football pitches, organising transport for match officials and the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
“I would also like to thank Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Moagi Molebatsi for helping us with a tent and 100 chairs for VIPs. Kgatleng District Health Management Team will also assist us with emergency medical services along with paramedics,” he said.
Molefhe also appreciated Angels Enterprises for donating two football kits to the would-be winner of the play-offs, being home and away kits and 20 golf t-shirts to the LOC.
He also said Dlala Sportswear had donated 10 referee kits, Dazzie Branding 20 t-shirts for the LOC while Joy Foundation would provide breakfast and lunch for 50 VIPs, 10 security personnel, ball boys and the winner’s trophy. ENDS
