Normal temperatures expected this winter

Botswana will this year experience a largely normal winter throughout the country.

Giving a winter forecast for this year during a press briefing recently, Department of Meteorological Services, principal meteorologist, Mr John Stegling indicated however, that early mornings would be relatively mild.

He said maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be recorded for the Northern parts of the country being the area covering Ngamiland, Chobe and the Northern parts of the Central District, would stand at 27.4 and 7 Degrees Celsius respectively.

As for the Eastern parts, being the area encompassing the North East and Southern parts of the Central District, highs of 24 Degrees Celsius and lows of 7 Degrees Celsius were expected, he said.

Regarding the Southern and Western parts of the country, being the area covering Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, Southern, South East Kgatleng and Kweneng, he explained that the maximum and minimum temperatures expected  were 23.6 and 5 Degrees Celsius respectively.

Mr Stegling also stated that this year’s winter would be slightly warmer than that of last year.

Making emphasis, acting director, Mr Balisi Gopolang said the country would for the winter period, from May to July, experience largely normal temperatures with a tendency to below normal expected during daytime, whereas during late night and early mornings would record normal to above normal temperatures.
