Records centre project completion September

02 May 2019

The ongoing construction of Rolong Land Board records centre is expected to be complete by September this year.

Giving an update during the stakeholder meeting organised by Rolong Land Board, Mr Willard Phiri, an architect from Botswana Housing Corporation, said the P9 million project which commenced in February would run for 32 weeks.

“At the moment we are just doing the tranches and starting to prepare the reinforcement for the footings. Construction period is 32 calendar weeks, that is commencing from February and completing the end of September and we hope that we would push towards that,” he said.

Mr Phiri further explained that the project encompassed two storage facilities, two offices as well as a consulting area. He said one of the records storage facility was measuring 100 square metres while the other one was 75 square metres.   The records centre is being built on a 500 square metres piece of land at the Rolong Land Board premises by Komikho Investment.

Rolong Land Board Secretary Mr Sego Bose explained that the records centre was a very important facility for accurate preservation of records by the land board.

“If we generate records and fail to preserve them accurately we would fail in whatever we are trying to achieve,” he said.

Goodhope/ Mabule sub-district council chairperson Ms Mmaobene Molefhe said the facility would provide proper storage space for records of the Rolong Land Board.

Ms Molefhe said records were important for any organisation to function efficiently because they provide evidence of actions taken and decisions made. She said records also allow the government to account for its actions.

She said the ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services took a decision to make appropriate reforms in its records function in order to conform to the best international standards of records keeping. She said following the reforms, the ministry undertook an initiative to build record centres in all land boards around the country.

“Today I am happy to say that our dream has become a reality. We have managed to secure funds and Rolong Land Board records centre project is finally here,” she said.

She added that the records centre would be important in the implementation of the national land registration project. ENDS
