Galaxy draw while Rollers romps on
02 May 2019
Just over a week ago, Jwaneng Galaxy was starring at a treble, but the Orange FA Cup fell from sight curtesy of BDF XI, and the possibility of a Premiership title was also heavily dented this Wednesday when they were held to a 0-0 draw by third placed Orapa United.
At the same time that Galaxy was struggling against Orapa United, their closest title rivals, Township Rollers were on the other hand romping to a comfortable 4-0 victory over former premiership aristocrats, Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
The result means Galaxy trails Rollers by a point with two games to go for the former while the latter remains with three, but despite the dicey situation, Galaxy coach, Miguel Da Costa still remains positive.
“We still have two games remaining and we will fight until the end.
We will have to win both games and just wait with hope on what happens elsewhere.
I have also been informed that the decision on the game between Rollers and Miscellaneous will be taken soon because we have been calling for the matter to be put to rest,” he said, referring to the game between Rollers and Miscellaneous that was postponed sometime back after Miscellaneous failed to honour the fixture because of disagreements on rescheduling.
On their game against Orapa United, Da Costa said it was a tough game tactically because Orapa United ‘came not to lose the game,’ referring to the way the Ostriches packed their defence.
Da Costa also attacked the strategy by Orapa United to close the game, calling it ‘negative football’. He, however, hailed the effort by his players.
For his part, Orapa United gaffer, Mogomotsi Mpote hailed his players for being in the game for the whole 90 minutes.
“We came here having planned to take the game in phases and am glad that we did just that.
We dominated the midfield and I am happy for the chances that we created, although we failed to convert them,” he said.
He also said they managed to avoid playing direct football which denied Galaxy attacking through the wings as they normally did. The result gives Rollers a breather at the top.
Galaxy are now left with Gaborone United and BR Highlander while Rollers will face disciplined forces teams, BDF XI and Police XI while awaiting the disciplinary committee on their game against Miscellaneous. ENDS
