Moruti encourages women to build brands

01 May 2019

Conversation starter, Ms Kealeboga Moruti better known as ‘Nikki’ to her friends and acquaintances, believes a phenomenal woman brand should be purposeful and clear.

Speaking on personal branding during The High Tea event at Thuso Inn, Serowe recently, Ms Moruti said a brand was very brave and true to self and therefore challenged women to make sound choices. However, the self-acclaimed conversation starter posited that for a woman to come across as successfully branded, she should be able to hold an ‘annual general meeting’ (AGM) within herself.

In this internal AGM, Ms Moruti advised, that there should be an agenda that would guide an individual to better assess self. By being true to self, she advised that women should desist from envying other brands, but rather take time to ask oneself internally what exactly it was they were best at, better than anyone.

Although she encouraged women to confront selves in a meeting,  she warned against causing a civil war within.

Using herself as a living example, Ms Moruti said a woman who had successfully branded herself would never be bothered by negative energy. She encouraged shedding off excess baggage of friends.

She said a real brand of a phenomenal woman would not hesitate to talk openly to her circles about matters that bother her. Ms Moruti advised that women should talk about what bothered them than feeding friends half-truths and facts which may consequently yield them partial help. “Brands have role models” she said, adding that brands should also gravitate towards their role models.

Labeling a brand as a revolution, the outspoken Ms Moruti who does not prefer the title motivational speaker and disassociates herself from her past professional life, callled on other brands to uplift those below them.

Other speakers included Love Ambassadors International Church prophet Gaone Moleta, who emphasised self-belief.

Prophet Moleta called on women to love themselves first and seek a purpose and spoke strongly against women who lived at the mercy of men, opining that subjecting oneself to an inferior status could be a cause for men to persistently feel like they owned women.

The prophet implored women to raise their standards to their preferred levels than to be dictated to by their male companions.

Calling on women to make themselves valuable, she said they should have a contribution on the table so that in the event their male partners considered mistreating them, they (men) would be forced to reconsider their intended actions.

Ms Keamogetse Lekgoa of The Edge Beauty Spa used her story to motivate other women into action. She narrated how growing up in a modest family moulded her persona. Ms Lekgoa said losing her mother and subsequently her siblings in quick succession moulded her up to be a woman of substance who had been part of ‘I am a phenomenal woman’ for about three years. The assertive young woman told the gathering of women how she was instilling an entrepreneurship spirit into her daughter, who assists in distributing business pamphlets at some occasions. She reiterated that personal identity was a critical component in pursuing one’s dreams and challenged those currently employed to think beyond their employ. Ms Lekgoa revealed that she used to make money whilst renting space in a popular mall in Gaborone, but it suddenly dawned on her that majority of her proceeds went to rental and overheads charges.

She took to seek a place where the better part of her proceeds could be channeled to her account. She lost customers in the process, a move she said did not regret.

The event organizer, Ms Dorcus  Masalila of Contemporary Business (a 100 percent events management establishment based in Serowe) said ‘I am a phenomenal woman’ seeks to bring women together, encourage and motivate them.
