Adhere to good work ethics to improve performance - official

 A Botswana Stock Exchange Lmited official has implored Kgatleng District Council employees to adopt to good work ethics as a cultural norm in their workplace. 

Speaking during the council’s performance awards ceremony held at Oodi College of Applied Arts recently, Mr Kopano Bolokwe said the 60 per cent attained by the council was dismal.

He said it showed that 40 per cent of the employees were underperforming which should be of concern to the council leadership.

Mr Bolokwe said the leadership  should find ways of rectifying the mistakes within the workplace. 

Moreover, Mr Bolokwe said management should also be accountable for the 60 per cent performance as they were also part of the council’s decision making. 

He said it was time Batswana strove to achieve excellence through good work ethics. 

Good work ethics were a cultural norm that called for one to be personally accountable and responsible for the work that they did and was based on a belief that work had an intrinsic value, he said. 

Mr Bolokwe said it was also time Batswana adopted change and gave young minds a chance to utilise new technology to offer much faster services. 

He said passion and hard work was what drove individuals to produce good results.

He explained that employers who sought employees with good work ethic always achieved set goals. 

Mr Bolokwe congratulated all those that received awards on the day. 

Kgatleng District Council chairperson Mr Mpho Morolong said employees were not motivated enough by the awards. 

Mr Morolong said his desire was for the council to be among the best in the country. 

He encouraged his team to be time conscious and responsible. 

The employee of the year and also gold medalist performance award winner Principal Education Secretary Mr Oscar Mabe thanked the council for recognizing his efforts.

 Mr Mabe promised to double his efforts in the department to achieve more and also to maintain the department’s standard with his colleagues.
