Francistown Women Institute donates to clinic

29 Apr 2019

Francistown Women Institute (FWI) recently handed over a computer, 30 blankets, jerseys and scarfs to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

The computer was specifically given to the hospital’s breast clinic to assist in the campaign against cancer while the blankets, jerseys, and scarfs were expected to help keep warm premature babies born at the facility.

Ms Valerie Van Malsen from FWI said they worked hard in order to assist the less privileged members of the community.

She was hopeful that the clinic would use donated items wisely to improve efficiency.

Ms Van Malsen further commended the breast clinic team for committing to educate the community and raise awareness about breast cancer.

The secretary of FWI, Dr Samba Nyiranda said the institute was able to play a meaningful role in the community because of the harmonious working relationship that existed between FWI, the social and community development department as well as ward development committees.

She said the primary mandate of FWI was to raise awareness about cancer and the importance of screening for the condition.

“As an institute, we support people living with cancer and health care workers,” she said.

For her part, a nursing officer at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital, Ms Neo Modise underscored that the relationship between the hospital and FWI dated back many years.

“Our collaboration with FWI comes a long way. We have visited schools together to raise awareness about breast cancer, and the institute has proven to be a true friend whenever we need assistance,” she said. ENDS
