Ngami DHMT encourages fitness

Ngami District Health Management Team (DHMT) leader, Dr Malebogo Kebabonye says non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a concern in the district.

Dr Kebabonye was speaking at a wellness day to sensitise the Maun community on fitness recently.

She said non-communicable diseases were a result of people’s lifestyles, and that they were increasing and claiming lives.

She encouraged people to engage in physical activities to curb chances of lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, cancer and others. In his remarks, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) chief executive officer, Mr Michael Tlhagwane said non-communicable diseases accounted for 71 per cent of deaths globally in 2017.

Mr Tlhagwane said the Ministry of Health and Wellness made efforts and strides in the fight against non-communicable diseases, and that it was up to individuals to reduce risk factors.

He said the ministry was in the process of launching its new strategy on non-communicable diseases. He said lack of physical activities also contributed to road accidents. ENDS
