United authority key to village dev.

Collaborative management is essential in complementing programmes and displacing bureaucratic processes.
This was said by Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso when addressing kgotla meetings at Dovedale, Makwate and Shakwe recently.
Ms Tshireletso said a leader was someone who engaged and consulted and was passionate about the development of their village. She said through collaboration, networks and committees, it was easier for them as leaders to jointly develop strategies to solve challenges.
Collaborative leadership, she said, did not reduce a leader’s power to think independently and make decisions, but brought social cohesion, created joint plans and helped identify strategies that benefited many.
Ms Tshireletso urged community leaders to consult other stakeholders before making decisions that affected the society.
She said there was power in decision making since the generation they were leading was dependent upon such decisions hence the need for leaders to share ideas when planning for communities.
Ms Tshireletso said it was important for Village Development Committees (VDCs) to consult with other committees such as farmers committees when addressing issues related to farmers.Leaders, she said, should develop self confidence by knowing their strengths and weaknesses.
“Nobody is perfect, that’s the first reality that you should awaken to as a leader. We all have flaws therefore we should know them and know how to manage them, but most importantly, a leader should be aware of his strengths or capabilities since that’s the driving force in which his or her leadership success is dependent upon,” she said.
