DCEC boss acknowledges media role
25 Apr 2019
The new Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) director general has described the media as crucial to the organisation’s efforts to uproot corruption from society.
Addressing his maiden press briefing on Wednesday, Brigadier Joseph Mathambo said the DCEC would therefore continue in its endeavours to cement its relationship with the media.
It would be unfortunate for the institution to be perceived as hostile towards the media or any other entity, he said.
Calling for more accurate and objective reporting, he said inaccurate reporting could hamper investigations and negatively impact the work of the organisation.
On his aims, Brig. Mathambo said his primary focus would be intensifying the fight against corruption and capacity building so as to enhance the organisation’s capability.
Moreover, he said he would maintain the integrity of DCEC by among others ensuring that it continued to fully protect the interests of the nation. Brig. Mathambo assumed the headship of DCEC at the beginning of this month replacing Mr Bruno Paledi who has since been transferred to the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security as secretary of defence.
