Delays in change of land use concern to government

Government is concerned about delays and obstacles encountered by those wishing to change and use.
South East District commissioner, Ms Sebokwana Dikgope said Wednesday during a kgotla meeting in Ramotswa that such delays were a hindrance to development.
She noted that change of land use was mostly required for business purposes.
where government officers interacted with villagers on the services they offer.
Such a change would come with employment opportunities thereby alleviating unemployment in the country.
Government, she said, was eager to identify all the bottlenecks hindering people from utilising land for commercial benefit.
Ms Dikgope however cautioned that this did not imply that all the land would be turned into business land as there was still need for other uses.
She therefore encouraged the community to identify all hindrances whether emanating from existing policies and laws for consideration by the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services.
Furthermore, Ms Dikgope said government wanted districts to brand themselves.
For her part, Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete said GaMalete had huge amounts of underground water tmaking horticulture an ideal business for the area.
Kgosi Mosadi encouraged Balete to venture into horticulture and take advantage of idle land.
She regretted that while many young people faced unemployment, land was still idle.
Another opportunity according to Kgosi Mosadi was poultry farming and growing food for livestock.
She suggested that connecting electricity to farming land could lure young people into the area. ENDS
