Board member explains land allocation delays
25 Apr 2019
Paje Land Board member Mr Thuso Kesetsekae has confirmed that indeed there is a long waiting list for various villages under his jurisdiction.
When responding to complaints by Mmashoro residents about delayed plot allocations at their village, Mr Kesetsekae, on behalf of land board chairperson, conceded that his office had not been allocating residential plots owing to factors that were needed to enhance land allocation.
He explained that the delay in allocating residential plots started in 2015 as a result of the Botswana national land policy that enforced planning and surveying.
He said the move was to ensure that all services were provided for at the areas before allocating plots to avoid having to relocate people to make way for services as it was experienced in the past.
The board member revealed to Mmashoro residents that Paje Land Board had secured land for village expansion where affected people had already been compensated.
However, Mr Kesetsekae appealed to the youth to desist from selling their plots after expressing their dire need.
He told the gathering that they were alive to allegations that some of those awaiting allotment had already sold their plots in advance.
When responding to an inquiry from the VDC report about the progress on allocating the village a community farm, Mr Kesetsekae revealed that the farm in question had been allocated and awaiting villagers to set up a committee, which would be responsible for the running of the farm on their behalf.
