Dulux supports school through paint

22 Apr 2019

Dulux Botswana has been commended for supporting education through the power of paint after re-painting Tsabong Primary School.

Speaking during the re-painted school buildings handing over ceremony, Kgalagadi District Council chairperson, Mr Meleko Thumpe appreciated Dulux for completing the project, which he said was a notable way of supporting education.

He said Dulux had chosen to support education through paint, which had improved the overall cleanliness of the school.

He said learners and teachers would be motivated by the improved look of the school, adding that the company came at the right time as the council had no budget to repaint schools.

Mr Thumpe further encouraged parents and other stakeholders to rise to the occasion and cooperate to improve results in Kgalagadi as most schools performed poorly.

For his part, Dulux Botswana sales and marketing manager, Mr Moses Moyaluka said the project involved paint trainees from Kgalagadi District Council and some from the village who assisted in painting the school while gaining knowledge on paint. “We involved trainees from council so that when they are given a painting job they should be in a position to specify painting products accordingly,” he said.

He reasoned that the trainees had gained skills and know which paint to use for Kgalagadi’s extreme temperatures to avoid high maintenance costs.

He said re-painting the school was the company’s way of supporting education and giving back to the community.

Principal education officer, Ms Poloko Lewatle appreciated Dulux for their effort and thanked the company for picking the biggest school in the district.

She encouraged parents, teachers and learners to take care of the school and repay Dulux Botswana with good grades in 2019.

School head, Mr Archie Seane said Tsabong primary was the biggest primary school in Kgalagadi South with 763 pupils and 30 teachers. He said the school strived to live up to their motto: ‘Failure is not an option, every learner must succeed’

In the past three years, he said the school had been getting 50 per cent on average, adding that the school continued to do well in sports and recently got position one in zonal competitions.

He appreciated Dulux for supporting the school and promised to produce good results as payment for the job well done.

Kgosi David Toto II also appreciated Dulux for the work on the school, saying it was the first primary school in Tsabong.

Kgosi Toto II further appreciated the painting company for training local people on paint applications. He said it would uplift their lives as some would use the skills imparted to earn a living. ENDS
