Ramaabya calls for cooperation

17 Apr 2019

Maun police are appealing for the cooperation of the public in ensuring their safety as the Easter holidays approach.

All roads would be leading to Maun for a line-up of activities such as the Mascom Derby and a music festival.

Maun Station Commander, Superintendent Motlhaba Ramaabya appealed to the community, drivers and revellers to work with the police, as they would embark on a massive operation to curb crime.

He advised the public to exercise caution during the holidays and act responsibly.

He noted that Maun was a tourism area and that people went there in large numbers to spend their leisure time.

Superintendent Ramaabya pointed out that they had reinforced their patrols and advised drivers to obey road signs and avoid driving under the influence and speeding.

“We will ensure that peace and stability reign in all strategic areas where people are gathered, and I urge the public to join forces with us as we fight crime and they should inform us about any suspicious incidents,” he added.

He also urged home owners to ensure that their homes were secured when they left for the holidays. Superintendent Ramaabya also urged liquor outlet operators to respect the stipulated operating hours.

He said efforts had been made to curb crime at some wards such as Sanyedi, which was crime prone due to its proximity to the shopping centre.

He said they managed to arrest a group of boys who were terrorising residents.

He thanked the public for their support and cooperation in past major events, saying they were incident free and hoped for the same support during the Easter  holidays.

Together, he said, they could win the battle of combating crime and making Maun a crime free destination. ENDS
