Botswana Police Commissioner, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe has donated P5 000 to the kgotla in Shakwe as well as a computer and a printer to the primary school worth more than P9 000.
The institutions had previously appealed for assistance from the commissioner at an event to launch the anti-stock theft, Operation KgomoKhumo on February 20 at Shakwe.
Handing over the donations on behalf of Mr Makgophe at Shakwe kgotla on Monday, Officer Commanding District NO 16 Assistant Commissioner, Mr Modisaotsile Bonang said, “The commissioner has acceded to your requests and the little that he gives from the bottom of his heart will be highly cherished and go a long way in mitigating the challenges of Shakwe community.”
Mr Bonang was optimistic that the funds and ICT equipment would help in preparing for the official opening of the tribal administration offices as well as improve the learning environment at the school.
Receiving the donation, deputy school head, Ms Mosamaria Tathelelo said that the school was faced with shortage of ICT equipment and relied on a single computer.
Ms Tathelelo said the donation would add value to the learning environment.
“It is a worthy donation as we share knowledge in a technologically advanced environment.
The commissioner’s office responded appropriately to our request,” she said.
The Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Phenyo Karata said the official opening of the tribal administration offices was scheduled for June 27.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage and we really appreciate the donation from the police commissioner,” he said.
Mr Karata said the donation was in line with the Botswana Police Service mission, which advocates for establishing strong partnerships with the community. ENDS
