Rampa shows opponents clean pair of heels

Phodiso Rampa of Good Hope Senior Secondary School has won 100 and 200 metre dash finals with a time of 10.57 and 21.33 respectively at the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) and Botswana Primary Schools Sports Association (BOPSSA) third national athletics competitions in Francistown  on Monday

In the 100m final, Rampa blasted out of the starting blocks with lightening speed making sure that he approached the 30m acceleration phase with confidence.

Rampa who faced tough competition from Calvin Bathusi of Maun senior, fought his way to the finish line to be crowned the 100m champ.

In the last metres of the race, it was him against Bathusi and the clock, but managed relegated his opponent to the silver medal bracket with a time of 10.61 while position three went to Oratile Kutlo of Mogositshane senior with 10.96.

Rampa stated in an interview that he was happy with his time and his mission was to continue to improve.

He said his race plan was to start and finish the race properly, adding that he had adequately prepared for the competition and the achievement was not a shocker.

For his part, Bathusi acknowledged his poor start though accelerated and finished well. He, however, said he was happy that he managed to improve his time and clock his personal best.

He thanked his opponents for pushing him until end of the race.

Bathusi said he was not under pressure to compete against Rampa noting that for him it was mission accomplished since his time had improved.

Rampa continued to terrorise his peers in the 200m, stopping the clock at 21.33 followed by Bathusi with 21.52 and Kemo Gomang of Mogoditshane third with 21.91.

In the 1500 junior women, Laone Moloi of South Central won gold with a time of 4:40.82 followed by her teammate Sylvia Mothibedi with 5:00.14 while Orebotse Maruping finished third with 5:03.86.

Karabo Ngwako of North Central won the 800 metres senior women with a time of 2:32.45, followed by teammate Baboloki Botshabelo with 2:39.51 while Boemo Kenalemang of South finished third with 2:44.23. ENDS
