Supplementary registration starts
15 Apr 2019
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has called on elegible voters to utilise a supplementary registration exericse that started from April 15-28.
Speaking during training of registration clerks in Letlhakeng recently, principal elections officer Mr Clifford Makhiya said registration for the general elections gave Batswana an opportunity to vote for leaders of their choice.
He, therefore, said it was important that registration clerks be dedicated to assisting Batswana to register for the general elections with ease.
Mr Makhiya said training offered them an opportunity to understand the importance of registering potential voters.
He added that IEC was giving Batswana an opportunity to register so that no one could be left behind.
The principal elections officer told the registration clerks that it was important to make sure that those who registered had a valid national identity card.
Mr Makhiya said the voters’ roll had shown that there were some rejections in some constituencies since some people were registered but did not have a valid Omang.
He added that in some instances, some had registered in two different polling districts which meant they had to be asked to choose where they would like to cast their vote.
The principal elections officer said they had trained 102 registration clerks for both Takatokwane and Letlhakeng/Lephephe constituencies. ENDS
