Pilikwe Primary School receives 15 mountain bikes
15 Apr 2019
Pilikwe Primary School in the Palapye Sub-district received 15 mountain bikes, helmets, and locks worth P75 000 from Mr Chris Winter and his organisation Pinkie Bike and Big Mountain Bike Adventure from Canada.
The mountain bikes were handed over to the school in Pilikwe recently with much-anticipated joy from the pupils at the school and residents of the village, who attended the occasion.
According to the village headman, Kgosi Johane Rakumako, who is also a mountain bike rider and a friend of Mr Winter, the donation came about after he informed his Canadian friend about his intention to start a mountain bike riders club at Pilikwe Primary School.
He explained that while they could not raise enough funds to purchase the bicycles, Mr Winter and his organisation stepped in to assist and they were able to buy 15 mountain bikes worth around P5 000 each.
He said the mountain bikes would also help the pupils at the school to exercise, keep fit and also encourage them to attend school with interest.
The school head Ms Gaamangwe Mfhaladi acknowledged Mr Winter and his organisation for the good gesture.
She also thanked Mr Rakumako for sourcing assistance from his Canadian friend.
She said the bikes would play a significant role in the school’s physical education programme.
She went on to note that her school obtained a 74 per cent ABC pass rate in 2017 and 82 per cent ABC pass rate in 2018. She said they intend to gain higher results in the 2019 PSLE. ENDS
